Muzaffarpur: Two criminals with long criminal records were shot by police in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, during an escape attempt. The incident happened under “Operation Langra”, a special drive by the Bihar Police to take action against repeat offenders. The two men—Suraj Sahni and Neeraj Thakur—were wanted in at least 20 cases, including robbery.
Police arrested the duo in connection with a robbery at a bank CSP. They were caught in the Paru area and were being taken to the police station when they asked to stop the vehicle to relieve themselves. While getting down, they reportedly started firing at the police. In response, police shot both of them in the legs.
Both men are now admitted to SKMCH hospital in Muzaffarpur under police watch. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sushil Kumar said the police fired in self-defense. He also added that the police are now looking into their full criminal history and trying to track down others in their gang.
A reward of Rs 25,000 had been announced earlier for Neeraj Thakur. Police have launched a search operation in the area where the shootout happened. Investigations are going on, and legal action will be taken after the two injured men recover.
