Vandalism and Assault During Idol Immersion in Patna’s Kadamkuan; Shops on Nala Road to Remain Closed in Protest
Patna: Tensions erupted in the Kadamkuan area of Patna on Tuesday evening during the Saraswati Puja idol immersion procession, when students from Saidpur in the Kadamkuan police station area reportedly vandalized several shops on Nala Road. The unrest escalated further as students allegedly assaulted women traveling home in rickshaws and autos, causing widespread concern.
In response to the incident, shopkeepers along Nala Road have declared a strike, with all shops to remain closed on Wednesday in protest. The local business community has stated that their closure will continue until the police arrest those responsible for the violence.
According to police sources, the trouble began when miscreants, reportedly involved in the immersion procession from Saidpur hostel in Bahadurpur police station area, targeted a spectacle shop near Dinkar Chowk on Nala Road. The shop, which was closed at the time, was damaged during the unrest. Eyewitnesses claim that the incident unfolded in full view of the police, raising serious concerns over law enforcement preparedness.
Central SP Sweety Sahrawat has since mobilized her entire police force to regain control of the situation. The police have confirmed that additional forces, including the RAF and personnel from several local police stations, were deployed to maintain order during the immersion. Despite this, the incident has sparked significant criticism regarding the effectiveness of the police’s response to public disturbances.
