Waqf Amendment Act Sparks Concerns Over Muslim Community’s Marginalisation

Patna: Prashant Kishor, the political strategist and leader of Jan Suraaj, has criticised the central government’s approach to amending the Waqf Act, saying that a significant section of India’s Muslim community feels uneasy about the proposed changes.

Speaking in Patna, Kishor said the government was introducing laws in Parliament without consulting those directly affected. “The Muslim community, which played a key role in India’s independence struggle, is now facing injustice,” he said, referring to the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC), both of which have been criticised for allegedly targeting Muslims.

He accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to make sweeping changes to the Waqf Board without engaging with the community. “A new narrative is being imposed without taking people into confidence,” he said.

On the issue of mob lynching, Kishor highlighted the lack of political support for victims. “When a poor, helpless Muslim is brutally killed by a mob, not even ten leaders who seek votes from the community stand with them,” he said, adding that this was now the biggest concern for Muslims in India.
