Water Resources Department Completes 1307 Schemes, Provides Irrigation to 5.80 Lakh Hectares

Patna: The Water Resources Department of Bihar has successfully implemented 1307 irrigation schemes, covering over 5.80 lakh hectares of agricultural land. As part of the”Har Khet Tak Sinchayi Ka Paani” (Irrigation Water to Every Field) program under Saat Nishchay-2, the department was tasked with providing irrigation facilities across 1.19 lakh hectares through 604 schemes. Of these, 597 schemes have been completed, benefiting more than 1.18 lakh hectares, while the remaining projects are under progress.

Additionally, 774 more schemes were selected to expand irrigation coverage to 5.46 lakh hectares. So far, 710 of these projects have been completed, bringing irrigation facilities to 4.62 lakh hectares. The remaining schemes are currently being implemented to meet the target.

With these efforts, the department has made significant progress in ensuring irrigation water reaches every farm. The large-scale completion of projects within a short timeframe marks a major achievement for Bihar’s irrigation sector. The work has been carried out through a joint technical survey and systematic planning.

The Water Resources Department continues to focus on strengthening irrigation infrastructure by effectively managing the state’s river water resources. The commitment to expanding irrigation coverage is expected to enhance agricultural productivity and support farmers across Bihar.
