Woman Dies by Suicide After Fight with Husband in West Champaran

A woman called her father saying she wanted to come home before ending her life later that day

West Champaran: A woman named Indu Devi died by suicide in West Champaran district of Bihar on Monday evening. She was 35 years old and lived in Paregwa Awadhiya Tola village under Yogapatti police station area.

Police said Indu had a fight with her husband, Nandlal Kushwaha, in the morning. After the fight, she called her father crying and told him she wanted to come to her parents’ house. Later in the evening, she took her two children out of the house and then hanged herself using her sari tied to an asbestos pipe on the roof.

Her children raised an alarm. Villagers and her husband broke open the door and found her hanging. She was taken to a doctor in the village but was declared dead. Police said it appears to be a case of suicide due to family quarrel. The body has been sent for post-mortem.

Indu’s father, Kedarnath Prasad, said he had spoken to her in the afternoon when she was crying to come home. He said they got the news of her death later that night. Police are waiting for a written complaint from the family to register a case and begin further investigation.
