Woman Found Hanged from Ceiling Fan in Apparent Suicide in Samastipur

Samastipur: A woman, identified as Babli Kumari, was found dead, hanging from a ceiling fan, at her rented residence in Ward 39 of Mohanpur, within the Mufassil police station area of Samastipur. Kumari had been living with her maternal family for the past three years.

According to reports, Babli Kumari’s husband died six years ago from electrocution. Following his death, her in-laws reportedly evicted her from their home, retaining custody of her two children. Since then, she had been residing with her maternal family.

The incident came to light when family members, concerned that Babli’s room remained locked for an extended period, looked through a window and discovered her body. She had reportedly gone to sleep after speaking with her father earlier that morning.

Local police were immediately notified and arrived at the scene. They recovered the body and sent it to the Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem examination. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death is now underway.

Babli Kumari’s father, Krishna Jha, a resident of Beni village in the Sakra police station area of Muzaffarpur district, provided further details. He stated that his daughter had married Laxmikant Chaudhary, a resident of Harpur Elauth in the Musrigharari police station area, in 2016. Laxmikant, who worked for a private company in Mumbai, died six years into their marriage.

Jha recounted that his daughter had two children, a son named Ajay and a daughter named Komal. He alleged that six months after his son-in-law’s death, Babli’s in-laws began disputing over life insurance funds. He further claimed that they eventually assaulted her and forcibly removed her from their home, keeping her children.

Ajit Prasad Singh, the station chief of Mufassil police station, confirmed that police responded promptly to the report. He stated that the body had been sent for post-mortem and that an investigation is in progress. He also confirmed that no suicide note was found at the scene.
