Patna: The Bihar Education Project Council has launched the ‘Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 2.0’ to create tobacco-free school campuses and keep students away from addiction. In the first phase, 160 schools in Patna district have been selected for the initiative. The campaign includes a ban on the sale and use of tobacco products within a 200-yard radius of the schools, with enforcement support from the district administration.
Awareness programs will be conducted in schools to educate students about the harmful effects of tobacco. Students will also be encouraged to spread awareness among family members and acquaintances who consume tobacco, urging them to quit. The campaign aims to create a ripple effect of awareness through young advocates.
District Education Officer Sanjay Kumar emphasized that all schools in the district must become tobacco-free zones. Teachers, students, and staff are expected to play a crucial role in ensuring the campaign’s success. Strict instructions have been given to headmasters to prohibit tobacco use on campus. Any teacher, student, or staff member found consuming tobacco in the selected schools will face disciplinary action.
The sale of tobacco within 200 yards of school premises is strictly prohibited, and violators will face action with the help of local police. The campaign is a significant step towards fostering a healthier environment for students and promoting a tobacco-free culture in the education sector.
