Patna: An ambitious infrastructure project is set to transform travel in Patna, with plans to build a 9.09km elevated road between Saristabad and AIIMS. Bihar State Road Development Corporation Limited (BSRDCL) has finalized the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the road, which is expected to cost over Rs 1,300 crore. The report will be submitted to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways next week for approval, paving the way for the selection of a construction agency.
Revised Route to Enhance Connectivity
The elevated road will connect Saristabad, at the junction of Patna-Gaya-Dobhi Road, to AIIMS via the New Bypass. This revised plan replaces an earlier proposal to build a 7km elevated road from Beur Mor to AIIMS via Anisabad. The new alignment adds over 2km and aims to provide a more direct route for commuters traveling from Gaya and surrounding areas.
Facilities and Green Spaces
The project will include ramps at key points to facilitate easy access, particularly in Anisabad. Motorists will be able to ascend and descend conveniently along the route. The elevated road will also integrate with existing infrastructure, including the Sipara-AIIMS elevated section and Patli Path, ensuring seamless travel for those heading towards Naubatpur, Bihta, Paliganj, Bikram, and other towns.
A green initiative is part of the plan, with a park to be developed on vacant government land near the project site. This initiative, costing over Rs 1 crore, aims to enhance the area’s aesthetics and provide environmental benefits.
Relief from Traffic Congestion
The elevated road is expected to significantly reduce congestion between Beur Mor and AIIMS, making the stretch jam-free. Vehicles traveling out of the city will utilize the elevated road, while local residents will continue to use the roads below.
Impact on Local Communities
The project is poised to benefit over 5 lakh people living in more than 100 localities across Beur, Anisabad, and Phulwari. By streamlining traffic flow and reducing travel times, the elevated road will not only improve connectivity but also enhance the quality of life for residents in the region.
