Cyber Police Bust Interstate Gang in Patna: 12 Arrested for Loan Fraud
Patna: In a major breakthrough, the cyber police in Patna have dismantled an interstate gang of cybercriminals involved in loan fraud. The operation led to the arrest of 12 individuals, including eight from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and three from Gujarat. The authorities also recovered over 100 ATM cards and 26 mobile phones from the gang.
The group lured victims by offering loans at exceptionally low rates. They operated out of a call center in the Ramakrishna Nagar area, where they recruited individuals under the guise of providing employment and used them to perpetrate their fraudulent activities. According to officials, the employees were even paid salaries for their roles in the scam.
The gang’s leader, identified as Golden Kumar from Nawada, remains at large. Raids are underway to apprehend him.
Patna SP (West) revealed that the gang had been active for the past three months. The cyber police discovered their activities during routine monitoring and tracking of suspicious phone numbers linked to cyber fraud. Acting on the intelligence, a team led by Cyber Police SHO and Deputy Superintendent of Police Raghavendra Mani Tripathi conducted a raid, resulting in the arrests.
The gang allegedly advertised fake loan schemes on social media platforms, sharing contact numbers to attract victims. They conversed with targets in their native languages, making their scheme appear authentic. Preliminary investigations suggest the group may have defrauded people of crores of rupees.
