Patna: The Asian Development Research Institute (ADRI) hosted a discussion on the book Kathmandu Chronicle: Reclaiming India-Nepal Relations on Friday, authored by K. V. Rajan, India’s former Ambassador to Nepal, and columnist Atul K Thakur.
Ambassador Rajan emphasized the need for a people-centric approach to bilateral ties, urging both nations to move beyond political leadership dynamics to reduce mistrust. He stressed that diplomacy should be sensitive to perceptions in the neighboring country.
Co-author Atul Thakur highlighted the growing economic ties, noting the daily movement of over 1,200 trucks at the Birganj border. However, he criticized Nepal’s government for inadequate attention to climate change, contrasting it with proactive civil society and businesses.
Professor Ajit Sinha, ADRI Director, introduced the speakers, while attendees included Dr. Ashmita Gupta, Dr. Sunita Lall, and Dr. Ushasi Gupta. The event featured both virtual and in-person participation, fostering dialogue on India-Nepal relations.
