Stamps Through the Ages: Philately Museum Inaugurated at Patna GPO

Patna: The Patna GPO witnessed a grand opening ceremony for the newly established Philately Bureau and Museum, inaugurated by Chief Postmaster General Anil Kumar. The event was attended by philatelists, senior postal officials, and other dignitaries.
The museum showcases a remarkable collection of postage stamps from various eras, offering visitors a unique glimpse into India’s rich history, culture, and heritage. From depictions of art and culture to milestones in the freedom struggle and the nation’s developmental journey, the stamps provide a fascinating visual narrative of India’s evolution.
“This museum is a journey through time,” Kumar stated during his inaugural address. “Postage stamps are more than just postage; they are living documents of our nation’s history and culture, inspiring pride and a deeper understanding of our past.”
Kumar emphasized the educational value of philately, highlighting its potential to broaden knowledge and awareness. “Philately is not just a hobby; it’s a vast ocean of knowledge, offering insights into diverse cultures, historical events, and scientific achievements worldwide,” he explained.
Upcoming Events and Initiatives
To further popularize philately, particularly among younger generations, Kumar announced several initiatives. These include the establishment of philately clubs in schools and colleges to educate students about stamp collecting and provide opportunities for participation in philatelic activities.
The Postal Department will also organize regular exhibitions, workshops, and competitions to engage the public with philately, fostering a deeper appreciation for this unique hobby.
“This initiative will undoubtedly play a crucial role in connecting people with India’s rich past and fostering a deeper understanding of our heritage,” Kumar concluded.
