Patna: A delegation of 11 BPSC aspirants met with Bihar’s Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena on Monday, seeking a resolution to their ongoing concerns over the 70th BPSC Preliminary Examination. During the meeting, the Chief Secretary assured the candidates that legal action would be taken in response to the memorandum they submitted, which outlined a series of demands.
The candidates called for the cancellation of the entire examination, citing alleged irregularities. They also requested a high-level investigation into the examination process, the withdrawal of cases filed against candidates, action against those responsible for the excessive use of force during protests, and compensation for the family of Sonu Kumar, a candidate who tragically lost his life during the demonstrations.
The delegation also highlighted issues at examination centres beyond Bapu Examination Centre, which had been a focal point of their concerns. The Chief Secretary assured the delegation that their issues would be addressed and encouraged them to maintain peace while continuing their protests.
The BPSC protests have been escalating over the past few weeks, with thousands of aspirants taking to the streets in Patna. On December 29, the situation became tense when police used water cannons and lathi-charges to disperse the crowd, leading to clashes. Over 700 FIRs were filed, including one against political strategist Prashant Kishor, who had shown support for the candidates.
Despite the protests, the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has denied allegations of malpractice. Secretary Satya Prakash Sharma emphasized that no credible evidence of irregularities had been found, but the commission remains open to investigations if any new information arises.
The protests have continued to draw attention from political leaders and student organizations, who have expressed solidarity with the aspirants.
