Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has announced plans for a ropeway over the Ganga in Patna, with work on the proposed project expected to begin within the next five months.
The announcement was made during the Rising Bihar Investor Summit in Patna, held on October 1. The official summit website identifies Choudhary as the Chief Minister of Bihar and lists the event at Hotel Taj City Centre, Patna.
According to the announcement, the proposed ropeway will be linked towards Harihar Nath Temple in Sonpur, creating a new connectivity option for devotees and tourists travelling to the religious site.
Ropeway To Cross The Ganga
The state government is working on a plan to develop a ropeway across the Ganga, with connectivity towards Harihar Nath Temple.
Choudhary said work on the project would begin within five months. The proposed link is expected to provide another travel option between Patna and the Harihar Nath Temple area.
However, details such as the exact route, stations, project cost, construction agency and technical specifications have not yet been announced.
Harihar Nath Temple in Sonpur is an important religious destination in Bihar and attracts devotees throughout the year.
Announcement At Rising Bihar Investor Summit
The ropeway announcement came during the Rising Bihar Investor Summit 2026, which was organised in Patna on October 1 under the theme “Bihar – The Emerging Investment Destination of India”. The official programme brought together policymakers, investors, industry leaders and entrepreneurs to discuss investment and infrastructure opportunities in the state.
The proposed ropeway forms part of the wider infrastructure and tourism connectivity discussion around the Ganga and important destinations in Bihar.
CM Also Raises Flood And Water Concerns
During his address, Choudhary also spoke about Bihar’s recurring flood situation and water-management challenges.
He said Bihar faces floods every year and noted that several rivers, including the Ganga, have crossed their previous Highest Flood Level (HFL) this year.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the contrasting water situation in Bihar. While water is available in large quantities during the monsoon months, several parts of south Bihar face increasing water requirements after the rainy season.
Focus On Gaya, Nawada And Jamui
Choudhary referred to areas including Gaya, Nawada, Jamui and Sasaram, where water requirements increase during the later months of the year.
He said the state needs systems that can make better use of water available during floods and ensure its availability when it is needed for people and agriculture.
The Chief Minister also referred to an earlier plan to take Ganga water towards Rajgir, Nawada and areas associated with Pind Daan, saying the government is considering how such arrangements could be taken forward according to future requirements.
Project Details Awaited
The proposed Ganga ropeway is now expected to move into the planning and implementation process following the Chief Minister’s announcement.
The five-month timeline refers to the proposed start of work; it does not indicate that the ropeway will be operational within five months.
Further details on the route, cost, stations and construction schedule are expected as the project moves through the required technical and administrative processes.
