Petrol Pumps in Bihar Face License Cancellation for Lack of Basic Facilities
Patna: The Bihar Transport Department has launched a campaign to inspect basic facilities at petrol pumps across the state. The initiative aims to ensure compliance with mandatory provisions, including separate toilets for men and women, drinking water arrangements, and cleanliness.
Teams Formed to Investigate
Transport Secretary Sanjay Kumar Agarwal has directed District Magistrates to form special investigation teams. These teams will inspect the condition of toilets, water facilities, and overall cleanliness at petrol pumps. The inspections aim to address complaints of locked or poorly maintained toilets and other neglected amenities.
Mandatory Facilities at Petrol Pumps
It is mandatory for petrol pumps to provide separate toilets and urinals for men and women, along with access to drinking water. However, numerous complaints have highlighted the unavailability or poor maintenance of these facilities. To rectify this, district-level officials have been tasked with conducting on-ground inspections.
Notices Issued to Petroleum Companies
Petroleum companies like Indian Oil, Hindustan Petroleum, and Bharat Petroleum have been issued notices. They have been instructed to inspect petrol pumps under their jurisdiction and ensure compliance with the required standards.
15-Day Deadline for Compliance
Petrol pump operators have been given 15 days to address deficiencies and improve facilities. Failure to comply within this time frame may lead to license suspension or even cancellation of allotments. The Transport Secretary emphasized the need for strict adherence to guidelines.
Comprehensive Inspection Campaign
The special campaign will cover key aspects such as the cleanliness of toilets and urinals, availability of water facilities, emergency services, and overall hygiene. Other customer-centric facilities will also be evaluated to ensure better service delivery.
Objectives of the Campaign
The primary objectives of this initiative are to improve hygiene standards, provide better facilities for customers, and hold petrol pump operators accountable. By addressing these issues, the government aims to enhance the overall experience for patrons.
Strict Action Against Defaulters
The Transport Department has stated that pumps failing to meet the required standards will face strict penalties, including suspension of operations. This move underscores the government’s commitment to improving public services and maintaining accountability in essential sectors.
