Danapur Woman Sends Alcoholic Husband to Jail; Husband Attempts Suicide in Police Custody

Patna: A woman in Danapur took a firm stand against her alcoholic husband, resulting in his arrest and a dramatic turn of events. The man, identified as Sipahi Rai, attempted to harm himself in police custody by biting his wrist.

The incident unfolded late on Monday evening when Rai, a resident of Khaspur in Maner, was found intoxicated and creating a disturbance at home. Following a dispute, his wife, Reena Devi, contacted the police. “I am fed up with his addiction,” she said, adding that a similar altercation had occurred a day earlier. Despite her warnings, Rai returned home drunk, prompting her to take action.

After his arrest, Rai reportedly tried to end his life in the police station lockup. Officers immediately rushed him to the sub-divisional hospital, where he received treatment before being returned to custody.

Rai, who works as a tractor driver, alleged that his wife no longer wanted to live with him. He claimed he had no parents and that his three brothers live elsewhere, leaving him isolated.

Danapur police station in-charge Prashant Kumar Bhardwaj confirmed the suicide attempt, adding, “The accused is now stable. An investigation into the matter is underway.”
