Patna: RJD MP from Patliputra, Misa Bharti, appeared in Danapur court on Tuesday in connection with a case alleging violation of the model code of conduct during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Misa, who is currently out on bail, has filed a petition seeking dismissal of the case. Judicial Magistrate Arbaaz Ansari has directed the prosecution to submit its response.
Speaking to reporters after her court appearance, Misa addressed the recent Mokama shootout, where reports claim 70 to 100 rounds were fired. She questioned the recurring violence within the same group and called for a thorough investigation by the police.
In an indirect reference to Anant Singh, Misa alleged bias in the handling of the case, saying, “The police arrest members of one group, while the MLA’s husband surrenders himself. Imagine the fear among the residents of the affected panchayat. It’s clear that those in power are supporting the MLA’s husband and praising him openly.”
Misa also criticized the misuse of parole, remarking, “For the first time in the country’s history, an MLA’s husband is called on parole from jail to help a candidate win. Parole is typically granted for family weddings or emergencies, not for political campaigns.”
On Chief Minister Nitish Kumar skipping the Republic Day flag hoisting in Mahadalit Tola, Punpun, she speculated that health or weather conditions might have been the reason.
When asked about Nitish Kumar’s future in the Mahagathbandhan, Misa refrained from commenting, stating, “It wouldn’t be appropriate for me to say anything now. First, he needs to address issues within his own party. He has created these problems for himself.”
The case and Bharti’s remarks come amid heightened political tensions in Bihar, with the state’s shifting alliances and recent incidents of violence drawing significant public attention.
