JDU MP Ajay Mandal Assaults Journalists, Police Remain Silent Spectators

Bhagalpur: JDU MP Ajay Mandal was caught on camera brutally assaulting journalists in Bhagalpur while police officers stood by without intervening. The incident occurred when journalists had gathered at the main gate of the airport ground to cover the possible emergency landing of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s aircraft due to low visibility. The video of the attack is now viral, showing the MP beating journalists Kunal Shekhar and Sumit Kumar, abusing them, and snatching their mobile phones.

The tension began when the police stopped a Scorpio with an MP’s board at the airport gate for inspection. The MP was not in the vehicle, but a young woman occupied the front seat while four others sat in the back. After checking, the police allowed the car to enter. Later, the same car exited the airport, and shortly after, Ajay Mandal arrived in it. Without provocation, he started attacking the journalists, throwing them to the ground and hitting them with shoes and punches. Despite a heavy police presence, no officer intervened to stop the assault.

Following the attack, the injured journalists were taken to Sadar Hospital for treatment. Once discharged, they filed a formal complaint at Tilkamanjhi police station.

The incident has sparked outrage among media organizations, who have strongly condemned the attack and demanded strict action against the MP and his supporters. The silence of the police during the assault has also drawn criticism, raising serious questions about law and order in Bihar.

The attack has once again exposed the dominance of political power over law enforcement. Media organizations are pressuring the administration to take strict action against those responsible.

However, given past incidents where political figures have acted with impunity, concerns remain over whether the authorities will ensure justice or let the case fade into obscurity.
