Patna: A Patna court on Thursday sought the case diary from police while hearing the bail plea of former Mokama MLA Anant Singh in connection with the recent shootout in Nauranga. The court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM-1) directed police to submit the documents before making a decision on Singh’s bail application. The former legislator has been in jail since January 24.
The shootout occurred on the evening of January 22 in Nauranga, Mokama. Following the incident, police registered a case against Singh under various sections, including the Arms Act and attempt to murder. The charges also include allegations of assaulting police personnel, using abusive language, and obstructing government work.
On January 24, police arrested gangster Sonu and Roshan, a supporter of Anant Singh, in connection with the firing. Later that day, Singh surrendered before the Barh court, which remanded him to 14-day judicial custody at Beur jail.
So far, five FIRs have been lodged in the case, one of which was filed by the police. Reports suggest that Singh, a known strongman politician, arrived in Nauranga with his supporters on the evening of January 22, leading to an exchange of fire with gangster duo Sonu-Monu and their associates. Witnesses claimed that around 100 rounds were fired, and a 53-second viral video purportedly captured the sound of at least 20 gunshots.
The court will take up Singh’s bail plea after reviewing the case diary submitted by police.
