Patna: St. Xavier’s College of Management & Technology in Patna hosted its Annual Sports Day on Saturday, bringing together students, faculty and staff in a celebration of athleticism, teamwork and competitive spirit.
The event commenced with an inaugural ceremony where the chief guest, Additional Director General of Police (Traffic) Sudhanshu Kumar, lit the ceremonial torch and released pigeons as a symbol of peace and harmony. In his address, he congratulated the college on attaining university status and highlighted the significance of sports in holistic development. He commended the institution for its sports infrastructure, aligning with the Bihar government’s goal of promoting athletics in educational institutions.
The day featured a range of track and field events, including 100m and 200m sprints, relay races, long jump, shot put and discus throw. Team sports such as football, basketball and volleyball added to the competitive atmosphere, while activities like blindfold walks and recreational games for faculty members introduced an element of fun.
A highlight of the day was the inter-departmental relay race, where students from various streams competed with enthusiasm, cheered on by their peers. The Department of Business Administration emerged as the overall winner of Aasman 2.0, the college’s sports competition.
The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, with medals, trophies and certificates awarded by Principal Fr. (Dr.) Martin Poras SJ, Vice Principal Fr. (Dr.) Sherry George SJ and other dignitaries. Congratulating the participants, Fr. Poras said: “Sports Day is not just about winning medals; it is about fostering teamwork, discipline and resilience. We are proud of the passion and sportsmanship displayed by our students.”
Prachi from the Department of Business Administration delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to organisers, volunteers and participants. As the sun set on a spirited day of competition, students left with cherished memories and a renewed enthusiasm for sports.
