Patna: Bihar Chief Secretary, Amrit Lal Meena, held a high-level meeting to ensure smooth traffic flow in front of the new terminal building at Patna Airport. Officials were instructed to prevent any disruption to passenger movement and vehicle operations within the airport premises. Meena directed authorities to install traffic signals, road signs, and designate separate pathways for pedestrians. Additionally, adequate parking facilities were proposed to accommodate the growing number of travelers.
The meeting was attended by Mihir Singh, Additional Chief Secretary of the Road Construction Department; Arvind Chaudhary, Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department; and Patna Divisional Commissioner Mayank Warwade, among other senior officials.
New Terminal Set to Open in April
The construction of Patna Airport’s new terminal, costing Rs 1,400 crore, is set to be completed this month, with operations expected to begin in April. The expansion will significantly increase passenger capacity during peak hours from 1,300 to 4,500. The upgraded facility will feature parking space for 11 aircraft and five aerobridges connecting the terminal to planes.
The new terminal will also include two VIP lounges each in the arrival and departure areas. Authorities estimate that between 60 to 70 flights will operate daily from the airport once the expansion is complete. In a bid to enhance passenger experience, a dedicated breastfeeding room will be introduced within the premises.
Bihta Set to Become Bihar’s Largest International Airport
Meanwhile, the upcoming Bihta Airport is poised to become Bihar’s largest international airport. The construction contract has been awarded to India’s JSCI Agency in collaboration with Vozrozhdeniye, a Russian company, for Rs 452.68 crore. The airport, which is expected to be completed in two years, will include a state hangar and a four-story terminal.
The facility will feature specialized infrastructure for international flights, including two escalators, six immigration counters, and separate zones for domestic and international operations.
