Union Budget: Bihar Likely to Receive Eight Vande Bharat Trains and 400 E-Buses

Patna: Patna is set to see a significant boost in its transport infrastructure, with the city receiving two Amrit Bharat trains, four Vande Bharat trains, and 150 new electric buses as part of the 2025-26 Railway Budget. The wider state of Bihar will benefit from a total of eight Vande Bharat trains and 400 electric buses under the newly announced scheme.
The initiative aligns with the central government’s push for electric mobility, with funds allocated in the Union Budget for the procurement of buses, development of charging stations, and construction of depots. According to a Transport Department official, these new buses in Patna will operate within a 150-kilometre radius, catering to around 12,000 passengers daily.
Other cities in Bihar, including Purnia, Gaya, Bihar Sharif, Muzaffarpur, and Darbhanga, will also benefit, with each city receiving 50 electric buses under the PM E-Bus Scheme.
Features of the New Electric Buses
The new fleet of electric buses will come equipped with modern features, including:
- GPS tracking for real-time monitoring
- Emergency alarms for passenger safety
- CCTV cameras for enhanced security
- Air-conditioned interiors for passenger comfort
- Special security measures for women passengers
- Lower fares compared to conventional buses
The buses will operate from the Phulwarisharif Transport Complex, with transport officials stating that the route plans will be finalised based on passenger demand and need.
