Patna: The Patna district administration has issued fresh directives to tackle the persistent traffic congestion in Bihta market, a hotspot for frequent road jams that have been causing significant disruptions to daily life. Patna District Magistrate Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh on Wednesday directed the rerouting of heavy vehicles, including tankers and sand-laden trucks, to prevent long-hour blockages that often leave emergency vehicles stranded.
The move comes after growing public frustration over continuous traffic snarls in Bihta, which not only obstruct ambulances, fire brigades, and school buses but also pose a potential law and order threat due to rising local discontent.
In a meeting chaired by Bihar’s Chief Secretary, officials reviewed the situation and emphasized the need for immediate decongestion measures. Following this, the Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Patna, proposed an alternative route for tankers from the HPCL Plant in Bihta and sand transportation trucks via Lai Mod and Sikariya Chowk instead of passing through Bihta market.
Taking this proposal into account, the Patna DM formally ordered the rerouting of these heavy vehicles with immediate effect. The directive aims to ensure smoother traffic movement in the commercially significant Bihta region, where frequent jams have been impacting local businesses, commuters, and essential services.
The district administration has urged transporters and local authorities to strictly adhere to the new traffic plan. Enforcement measures are expected to be stepped up in the coming days to monitor compliance and prevent any violations.
