Polytechnic Student Dies by Suicide in Bhagalpur Lodge, Family Cites Exam Stress

Bhagalpur: A 25-year-old polytechnic student from Banka district tragically took his own life by hanging himself in a lodge located in the Nasratkhani area of Bhagalpur’s Lalmatia police station jurisdiction. The deceased has been identified as Saurabh Kumar, son of Vijay Kumar Shah, a teacher in Bhagalpur.

The incident came to light on Thursday when Saurabh’s father, concerned after repeated attempts to contact his son, went to his lodge. Upon arrival, he found his son’s body hanging from the ceiling fan in the room. Local residents immediately alerted the police, who arrived at the scene and took the body for post-mortem at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital.

Saurabh’s father shared that his son had been upset over his recent exam results, despite securing 83%. “He was not happy with his performance, and this seemed to trouble him,” said Vijay Kumar Shah, who tried to console his son but noted that Saurabh remained distressed.

The father, a teacher in Bhagalpur, had last spoken to his son four days prior, but when Saurabh did not respond to his calls on Thursday, he rushed to the lodge. After knocking on the door for an extended period without a response, Shah contacted his son’s friend and the lodge owner, and together, they broke open the door to find Saurabh’s body.

The family is left devastated by the loss, with relatives and friends expressing their sorrow. “We tried everything to support him, but he seemed overwhelmed,” a grieving family member shared.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, with preliminary reports suggesting that academic stress may have played a role in Saurabh’s decision. Authorities are working to confirm the exact cause of the suicide and are examining all aspects of the case.
