Kundghat Reservoir Nears Completion, Set to Boost Agriculture in Jamui

Patna: The Kundghat Reservoir Scheme on the Bahuar River in Sikandra block of Jamui district is 91% complete, with the remaining work progressing rapidly. The irrigation project, undertaken by the Water Resources Department, aims to provide much-needed relief to farmers in the drought-affected region by enhancing agricultural productivity and boosting rural incomes.

Once fully operational, the scheme will benefit farmers across multiple panchayats, including Dhawatand, Mathurapur, Hariharpur, Lachhuar, Mishridih, Fatehpur, Khutkhat, Gokhula, Kumar Navadih, Navkadih, Rabai, Baladih, and Dharsanda. The irrigation canals linked to the reservoir are expected to not only improve groundwater levels but also mitigate the region’s recurring drought problems.

Beyond its immediate impact on agriculture, the Kundghat Reservoir Scheme is also anticipated to contribute to environmental conservation and economic development in the area. The improved water availability is expected to support local livelihoods, encourage water conservation, and even promote tourism in the future.
