Patna: Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has said that the governments led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the centre and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Bihar are committed to the ideals of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay by implementing welfare schemes aimed at uplifting the poor.
Speaking at a tribute event in Rajendra Nagar Park on Tuesday to mark Upadhyay’s death anniversary, the deputy CM highlighted the Modi government’s initiatives, including the opening of 40 crore Jan Dhan accounts over the past decade, providing four crore houses to the poor, and ensuring access to toilets and gas connections for millions of families. He attributed these achievements to the principle of Antyodaya—uplifting the last person in society.
The event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha, Legislative Assembly Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav, local MLAs, and several BJP leaders.
Samrat also noted that following Bihar’s caste survey, initiated by CM Nitish, 94 lakh poor families were identified, each receiving financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to improve their living conditions.
Discussing the Union Budget for 2025–26, Choudhary said the Modi government is set to introduce a new scheme for urban poor and expand the Pradhan Mantri Swanidhi Yojana to cover one crore beneficiaries. Under the scheme, 68 lakh small entrepreneurs have already received easy loans ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000.
Samrat, who also holds the finance portfolio, assured that Bihar’s upcoming budget would prioritise benefits for the poor and middle class, following the central government’s lead in addressing their needs.
