Patna: Bihar is witnessing an unusual rise in temperatures, with mid-February already recording levels typically seen in the summer months. After a spell of intense cold, the state is now experiencing an early onset of heat, with temperatures hovering around or exceeding 30 degrees C.

According to meteorological data, Aurangabad recorded the highest temperature in the state on Friday at 28.3C, while Gaya, Buxar, and Dehri are also nearing the 30 degrees C mark. Other districts, including Forbesganj in Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia, Khagaria, Bhojpur, Sasaram, Arwal, and Buxar, reported similar temperature trends, with several areas surpassing 30 degrees C in recent days.

Experts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) have termed this rise in temperatures as unusual for this time of year, raising concerns that Bihar could face an intense summer ahead. The soaring temperatures, particularly in mid-February, suggest a shift in seasonal patterns, prompting health advisories and warnings for vulnerable populations.

Despite the unexpected heat, there is no immediate weather warning for the state. The IMD has forecast dry conditions across all districts for the next three days. However, the sudden change in temperature is already impacting public health, with authorities urging people to take precautions.

The shifting weather patterns are also affecting agriculture. With clear and dry conditions expected, farmers have been advised to begin harvesting mature mustard crops to prevent potential damage from further weather fluctuations.

As Bihar grapples with this early spell of heat, experts will be closely monitoring temperature trends in the coming weeks to assess whether this is an anomaly or a sign of broader climatic changes.
