CM Nitish Kumar Announces Compensation for Bihar Victims of New Delhi Railway Station Stampede

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has expressed deep condolences over the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station, which claimed 18 lives, including nine reportedly from Bihar. Describing the incident as “extremely sad,” CM Nitish extended his prayers for the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.
In a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) this morning, CM Nitish has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the families of Bihar residents who lost their lives and Rs 50,000 for those injured, from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
The stampede occurred late on Saturday night at platforms 13 and 14, as thousands of devotees attempted to board trains to Prayagraj Mahakumbh. The railway ministry has ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his condolences on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “I am saddened by the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station. My condolences are with all those who have lost their loved ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. Officials are assisting all those affected.”
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the stampede, as efforts are being made to support the victims and their families.
