Patna: Patna’s riverfront is set for a major transformation with the launch of the Samagra Udyan project, an ambitious initiative aimed at developing the unsurveyed land along the Ganga River into a vibrant tourism and cultural hub. The foundation stone for the project will soon be laid, marking a significant step in revitalising the city’s waterfront and improving connectivity with surrounding areas.
A key highlight of the project is the Sabhyata Dwar, designed to provide direct access to the riverfront. At present, the only entry to the Sabhyata Dwar is via Gandhi Maidan, but the new development will open up a direct approach from the river, enhancing accessibility for visitors and further integrating Patna’s historical and cultural landmarks.
The project envisions a newly designed riverfront extending from the Patna Collectorate to Ekta Bhawan, building on the existing waterfront that currently terminates at the Collectorate. This expansion will link significant sites, including the Sabhyata Dwar and JP Ganga Path, creating a seamless experience for locals and tourists.
The Samagra Udyan project will be executed in three phases, with the first phase focusing on extensive greening—one lakh saplings will be planted to enhance the area’s ecological balance. The initiative is a joint effort involving the Bihar State Road Development Corporation (BSRDC), the Tourism Department, the Urban Development Department, and the Forest Department.
