Patna: Making a mark in the film industry is challenging, especially for those from small towns. However, Deepak Singh, a native of Siwan in Bihar, has steadily built a career in Indian cinema, working across multiple languages and earning recognition for his performances.
Singh is currently in the spotlight for his upcoming Bhojpuri film Kariyathi, directed by Nitin Neera Chandra and produced by actress-producer Neetu Chandra Srivastava. In the film, he plays Jagdish Dubey, a respected teacher whose life takes an unexpected turn.
For Singh, Kariyathi is more than just another project. He sees it as a film with a broader appeal, addressing global themes through the Bhojpuri language. “Nitin Chandra is a meticulous director with a deep understanding of storytelling,” he said, adding that he has previously collaborated with Chandra on Chhath songs and projects featuring playback singer Suresh Wadkar.
With a background in Tamil, Hindi, and Bhojpuri cinema, Singh brings both skill and dedication to his craft. A black belt in martial arts, he refined his acting at Anupam Kher’s Actor Prepares school before beginning his film journey in 2008 with the Tamil movie Aegan. His Bhojpuri debut came in 2010 with Deswa, where his portrayal of Shankar Pandey was well received. The film, directed by Chandra, was the first Bhojpuri production from Bihar to be showcased at the International Film Festival of India in Goa.
Since then, Singh has appeared in films such as Ek Bura Aadmi (2012), Aayam (2014), Once Upon a Time in Bihar (2015), and The Super Husband (2024). As he prepares for the release of Kariyathi in 2025, he continues to explore diverse roles, strengthening his presence in the industry.
