Muzaffarpur: BR Ambedkar Bihar University (BRABU) marked Teachers’ Day by conferring its VC Research Excellence Award on 61 faculty members, the highest number of recipients since the award was introduced in 2024.
The number represents a significant increase from 33 awardees last year, reflecting the university’s growing emphasis on research and measurable academic outcomes.
The award was introduced by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dinesh Chandra Rai in 2024. Initially, recognition was primarily based on publications in Q1 and Q2 journals. The award criteria have since been expanded to include significant research projects and patents.
Focus shifts to impact-oriented research
Addressing the award recipients and university officials, Rai called for the development of a stronger, impact-oriented research culture at the university.
He said research should address societal needs and increasingly be undertaken through collaborative groups rather than isolated individual efforts.
“Our focus is clear, research that creates real impact, meets the needs of society, and grows stronger through teamwork,” Rai said.
He added that the award should not be viewed merely as recognition of individual accomplishments but as an affirmation of the university’s broader commitment to knowledge creation.
“This award is not merely a recognition of individual achievement; it is a powerful affirmation of our collective resolve to create knowledge, not just transmit it,” he said.
Research output shows improvement
Rai said the university’s research output and citation index have improved significantly in recent years, which he attributed to sustained efforts towards strengthening research.
He said the increase to 61 award recipients this year would further encourage faculty members to pursue high-quality research with greater relevance and impact.
The university fraternity congratulated the awardees and appreciated the Vice-Chancellor’s initiative to promote research excellence.
Prof BS Rai, Prof Bipin Kumar Roy, Prof Samir Kumar Sharma, Prof Kanupriya, Prof Navedul Haque, Prof Rajeev Kumar, Dr Amar Bahadur Shukla, Dr Navin Kumar and other faculty members were present at the ceremony.
