Land-for-Jobs Case: Delhi Court Summons Lalu Yadav, Family Members

New Delhi/ Patna: A Delhi court has taken cognisance of the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) final charge sheet in the land-for-jobs case, summoning Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad and his family members. The Rouse Avenue Court issued summons on Tuesday, requiring Lalu, his son Tej Pratap Yadav, and daughter Hema Yadav to appear on March 11.

The CBI has filed a charge sheet against Lalu and 78 others, including 30 public servants. The agency has also sought permission from the court to prosecute retired IAS officer RK Mahajan, a former Railway Board officer, stating that a list of witnesses against him is ready. The court is expected to take a decision on this matter soon.

In a previous hearing on January 16, the court had directed that if approval for Mahajan’s prosecution was not obtained by January 30, the competent authority would have to provide an explanation.

The land-for-jobs scam relates to allegations that individuals were given employment in the railways in exchange for land parcels transferred to the Yadav family at below-market rates during Lalu’s tenure as railway minister.
