IIT Patna Student Dies by Suicide: Third-Year Hyderabad Resident Jumps From Seventh Floor After Cutting Wrist

Patna: A third-year student of IIT Patna, Rahul Lavari, died by suicide on Tuesday, sending shockwaves through the campus. Lavari, a resident of Hyderabad studying computer science and mathematics, reportedly first cut his wrist before jumping from the seventh floor of a hostel building.
Following the incident, fellow students rushed him to Netaji Subhash Medical College and Hospital in Bihta, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances leading to his death.
Upon receiving the news, IIT Patna director Prof TN Singh visited the site. However, the institute’s administration has refrained from making any official statements. IIT police station in-charge Vivek Kumar confirmed that a police team had been sent to the hospital and that investigations were ongoing. “The reasons behind the student’s death are yet to be determined,” he said.
A fellow student, Ritu Sinha, described Lavari as a cheerful person. “I don’t know why he did this. We saw blood in his hostel room. By the time we broke the door to reach him, he had already jumped,” she said.
Authorities are looking into possible causes as they continue their investigation.
