Patna: Nishant Kumar, son of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has called on the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to officially declare his father as the chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming elections. Speaking on Tuesday at Smriti Park in Patna, where he and his father paid tribute to his late mother Manju Sinha on her birth anniversary, Nishant asserted that despite securing only 43 seats in the last election, Nitish Kumar’s government has continued developmental work and is poised to win even more seats this time.
His statement comes amid increasing speculation over his potential entry into active politics. Just days ago, posters reading ‘Bihar Kare Pukar, Aiye Nishant Kumar’ (Bihar calls, come Nishant Kumar) were put up outside the JD(U) office, reportedly by party workers, fueling discussions about his future role in Bihar’s political landscape.
Nishant also responded to RJD leader Tej Pratap Yadav’s recent remarks, where Yadav invited him to join the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). Dismissing the offer, Nishant said, “Whatever happens, let’s go to the people’s court. They will decide.”
The political buzz around Nishant Kumar has also drawn reactions from opposition leaders. Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav remarked last week, “Nishant is our brother. We want him to settle down soon.” He also suggested that Nishant should consider the political company his father keeps, including BJP leaders such as Narendra Modi and Chirag Paswan, as well as JD(U) leader Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, many of whom had previously been critical of Nitish Kumar.
With speculation growing around Nishant Kumar’s potential political ambitions, his frequent statements are being closely watched, adding another dimension to Bihar’s evolving political landscape.
