Patna: Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Sunday took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asserting that he would not make false promises. “I am 36 years old, not 75. Whatever I say, I will do it,” he said.
Speaking about Modi’s visit to Bihar, he remarked, “Prime Minister, visit Bihar as many times as you like. There’s no problem. Eat makhana for 365 days, mix sattu and drink it. If you don’t know how, my father Lalu Prasad will teach you.”
Taking aim at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Tejashwi said Bihar needed a fresh face in leadership. “The state wants a new Chief Minister and rapid development. Nitish Kumar has had 20 years. He is an old model; Bihar now needs a new model.”
Tejashwi also urged the state government to introduce women-centric policies in the budget, which is set to be presented on Monday. He called for a separate proposal on 65% reservation, stating, “The matter is in the Supreme Court, but if the government wants, it can bring a new proposal. We will support it and get it passed.”
Accusing the BJP of being a “reservation thief”, he criticised the ruling coalition, saying, “Despite having a double-engine government, Bihar remains in poor condition.”
The RJD leader also demanded several welfare measures, including 200 units of free electricity for all households, free electricity for farmers, and an increase in pensions, raising old age, social security, disability, and widow pensions from Rs 400 to Rs 1,500.
Tejashwi made these remarks while addressing the media at the RJD party office in Patna.
