Greater Patna: 14 Blocks in New Development Plan

Patna: With Patna’s rapid urban expansion and rising population, the district administration has proposed the creation of the Greater Patna Authority, aiming to guide the city’s development in a structured manner up to 2050. The authority will oversee 14 blocks across four subdivisions, ensuring planned urbanisation and infrastructure development. The proposal has been sent to the Urban Development and Housing Department for approval.
Expanding the City’s Limits
The new Greater Patna Authority will include areas from four key subdivisions:
- Patna Sadar: Patna Sadar, Sampatchak, Phulwarisharif
- Patna City: Fatuha, Daniyawan, Khusrupur
- Masaurhi: Masaurhi, Punpun, Dhanarua
- Danapur: Danapur, Maner, Bihta, Naubatpur, Bikram
However, the areas under Barh and Paliganj subdivisions have been excluded from the plan. District Magistrate Dr Chandrashekhar Singh stated that the inclusion of these areas will enable a more comprehensive approach to city planning, improving infrastructure, transport, and public amenities in response to future population growth.
Major Infrastructure Overhauls in the Pipeline
As part of the urban development roadmap, several key projects are set to reshape Patna’s landscape:
Five-Star Hotel to Replace Bankipur Bus Stand
The congested Bankipur bus stand near Gandhi Maidan will be removed to alleviate traffic jams around Kargil Chowk. In its place, a five-storey hotel is planned, which is expected to enhance the commercial and tourism appeal of the area. The move is aimed at tackling the persistent traffic congestion in the city centre while boosting hospitality infrastructure.
Easing Congestion Around Patna Junction
Traffic congestion near Patna Junction roundabout has long been a concern. To address this, auto and e-rickshaw stands will be relocated to a designated space near the roundabout. This measure aims to streamline vehicle movement and ensure a smoother flow of traffic in one of the busiest areas of the city.
A Step Towards a Smarter Patna
With these initiatives, Patna is set to undergo a significant transformation, balancing heritage with modern infrastructure. The Greater Patna Authority, if approved, will be a critical step in ensuring sustainable urban development, making the city more liveable and efficient for its growing population.
