Patna : The Bihar government has reversed a controversial order by former Additional Chief Secretary KK Pathak, deciding to grant full summer vacation in schools this year without mandatory special classes. This move comes as the state braces for an intense heatwave, with temperatures already hovering between 35°C and 40°C in March, raising concerns about extreme weather in the coming months.
Complete Break for Students
State Education Minister Sunil Kumar announced the decision while addressing the Legislative Council, where he discussed various issues concerning Bihar’s education system. He confirmed that this year, students would not be required to attend special classes during the summer break, offering them a complete respite from school activities.
This marks a significant departure from the policy implemented during KK Pathak’s tenure, when weak-performing students were required to attend special classes even during the summer holidays. The move had faced opposition from various quarters, including parents and teachers, due to concerns over students’ health during extreme heat.
Concerns Over Heatwave Intensify
With the mercury already rising alarmingly, the meteorological department has warned of a potentially severe heatwave in Bihar this year. Each summer, government schools witness instances of students fainting in class due to heat, and the state often reports fatalities linked to heatwaves.
