Patna : RJD MLAs staged a protest during the budget session of the Bihar Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, demanding that the increased reservation limit in Bihar be included in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution. The legislators arrived at the Assembly wearing green T-shirts bearing slogans such as, “Include the 65 percent reservation increased in Bihar during the Tejashwi government in the Ninth Schedule” and “Reservation thieves BJP-NDA answer.”
Outside the Assembly, opposition MLAs raised slogans accusing the BJP and NDA of being “reservation thieves.” They demanded that the expanded reservation scope be formally included in the Ninth Schedule to safeguard it from judicial review. The protest extended to a march within the Assembly premises as RJD MLAs voiced their concerns.
RJD Dismisses Rift with Congress
Meanwhile, RJD MLA Bhai Virendra dismissed any notion of discord between the Congress and RJD over the absence of Congress leaders from Lalu Prasad’s recent Iftar event. “The INDIA alliance is for the entire country, and we remain united in Bihar under the Mahagathbandhan. It has been decided that Tejashwi Yadav will be the Chief Minister. There is no question of any distance,” he said, adding that Rahul and Sonia Gandhi remain the key decision-makers in Congress.
CAG Report Tabled, Two Bills to be Passed
In other proceedings, Finance Minister Samrat Choudhary presented the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report in the Assembly. The Bihar government is also set to table and pass two bills later in the day—the Bihar Wood-Based Industry Bill, 2025, and the Bihar Cooperative Society Bill, 2025. Both bills are expected to be cleared after discussion in the second half of the session.
Tejashwi and Samrat Choudhary Spar Over BJP and RSS Links
Monday’s session witnessed a heated exchange between Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary during the discussion on the Bihar Appropriation Bill and Demand Grant. Tejashwi accused the BJP of “hijacking” Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and questioned the BJP’s influence over the state government.
Samrat Choudhary retaliated by targeting the Yadav family, saying, “Lalu ji had no ideology. Tejashwi Yadav asks me if I have ever been to the Sangh office. I ask, how many times did his father go there when he was with the BJP? If Tejashwi goes to the RSS office in Nagpur, his luck might change. There’s even a Yadav Niwas in the RSS office.”
