
Patna : A 19-year-old woman from Bihar was allegedly raped in Bengaluru in the early hours of Wednesday after her brother was attacked by two auto-rickshaw drivers near KR Puram railway station.
According to Bengaluru police, the woman, a resident of Banka district in Bihar, had arrived in the city from Kerala for training. Her brother had come to receive her, and the two stepped out for a meal when they were assaulted.
The suspects, identified as Asif and Syed Musahar, both auto-rickshaw drivers from Karnataka’s Kolar district, have been arrested.
Attack near Mahadevapura
According to media reports, the attack took place around 1.30 am as the siblings made their way towards Mahadevapura. Police said the two men approached them under the pretext of offering help but then assaulted the brother. While one of the suspects beat him, the other dragged the woman to a secluded spot and allegedly raped her.
Hearing her screams, locals intervened and managed to catch one of the accused, while the other attempted to flee. However, both were apprehended within 15 minutes, police said.
Police action and legal proceedings
Deputy Commissioner of Police Shivkumar said a case has been registered at Mahadevapura police station. The suspects face charges under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including those related to sexual assault and physical assault.
