Patna : A new railway terminal is set to be constructed near Harding Park in Patna, following a Bhoomi Pujan ceremony marking the commencement of the project. The terminal, which will be built on 4.8 acres at an estimated cost of Rs80 crore, aims to alleviate pressure on Patna Junction by diverting passenger trains operating in the east-west corridor.
The facility will feature five platforms and is expected to serve more than 60,000 local passengers daily. Railway officials have stated that land acquisition negotiations with the state government are progressing rapidly, ensuring smooth development of the terminal.
Improved connectivity and passenger amenities
The terminal will offer a range of passenger facilities, including a waiting hall with a capacity for over 2,000 people, 15 general ticket counters, and parking space for more than 1,000 vehicles. Additionally, separate toilets for men and women, along with other essential amenities, will be provided.
Once operational, the terminal will facilitate direct train services to North Bihar via Phulwari, Patliputra Junction, and JP Setu. Routes extending to Sonpur, Sasaram, Ara, Buxar, Gaya, Jhajha, and beyond will also be covered. According to Danapur Railway Division, more than 50 passenger trains will be operated from the new facility each day, significantly improving rail connectivity for commuters in the region.
