Patna: A major announcement made during Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Pragati Yatra is on the cusp of becoming reality, with Patna’s Common Facility Centre nearing completion. Located near the Mithapur Metro Station, this flagship initiative under the Smart City scheme is set to transform the city’s educational and civic landscape.
Spread over 26,000 square feet and built at a cost of Rs 30 crore, the multi-use complex promises to become a hub of convenience for students, youth, and local residents. According to Patna Smart City Limited, the ground floor will house a post office, municipal corporation office, bank, ATM, open-air theatre, and public courtyard. The project is expected to be fully operational by June 2025.
All-in-One Campus for Youth
The G+2 building will offer a comprehensive range of services and amenities. From the daily essentials—such as a convenience store, general and stationery shops, salon, and beauty parlour on the first floor—to a rooftop kitchen and café, dubbed Didi Ki Rasoi, the facility is tailored to meet the everyday needs of students and young professionals.
The centre will also feature a gym, shopping mall, and separate toilets for men and women on every floor. Accessibility has been prioritised with two high-speed lifts and stairways. Special care has been taken to maintain greenery and cleanliness across the campus.
Infrastructure Beyond the Building
Modern infrastructure improvements are also being carried out around the site. A PQC (Pavement Quality Concrete) road along a 25-metre Right of Way has been constructed at a cost of Rs 5.79 crore, including stormwater drainage and utility ducts to avoid service disruptions.
Similar upgrades have been made in front of key institutions: Rs 6.54 crore was spent on road and utility work near Chandragupta Institute of Management, and Rs 7.11 crore near Chanakya National Law University. Beautification, footpaths, and traffic infrastructure improvements around the Common Facility Centre have been executed at an additional cost of Rs 1.43 crore, with a dedicated water supply system worth Rs 1.61 crore also in place.
Strategic Location, Big Impact
The facility is strategically located near major educational institutions, including the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), Aryabhatta Knowledge University (AKU), Maulana Mazharul Haq Arabic and Persian University, Nalanda Open University’s Patna campus, and the Chandragupta Institute of Management.
Its proximity to both road and metro networks ensures easy access for students commuting from different parts of the city and beyond. Officials say the centre is expected to save time, reduce logistical burdens, and offer a modern, student-friendly environment—particularly for those who have migrated from other states to study in Bihar.
Once completed, the Common Facility Centre is poised to give Patna’s education district a fresh identity, blending civic services with community life and transforming Mithapur into a model of youth-centric urban planning.
