PATNA – In a proactive move to prioritize the safety of school going children, the Bihar government has initiated comprehensive inspections of school vehicles, targeting standards of fitness, pollution, permits, insurance, and adherence to safety norms.

Transport Secretary Sanjay Kumar Agrawal emphasized the urgency of the inspections, citing numerous complaints regarding non-compliance with speed and safety regulations for school buses.

District Transport Officers (DTOs) statewide have been instructed to carefully examine all vehicles associated with schools, demanding detailed reports on their conditions. A specialized team of 15 Motor Vehicle Inspectors (MVIs) has been deployed in Patna to conduct thorough surveys and checks on school vehicles, ensuring compliance with specified standards.

Transport Secretary Agrawal expressed his concerns over reported violations of speed and safety norms. The inspections aim to verify the presence of speed governors, active Vehicle Location Tracking Devices (VLTD), adherence to permit conditions, and compliance with fitness, pollution, and insurance requirements.

The statewide initiative includes a directive to all District Transport Officers, compelling them to compile comprehensive reports on all vehicles under the purview of schools or utilized for student transportation within a week. Legal actions will be taken against any violations of traffic rules discovered during the inspections.

The Bihar government’s proactive actions shows its true commitment towards ensuring the highest safety standards for schoolchildren, addressing concerns and taking decisive action to rectify lapses in the transportation system.
