Bihar Police Encounter: Gang-Rape Accused Shot in Gopalganj Crackdown, Law Enforcement Intensifies Action
In a major police action in Bihar’s Gopalganj, three men accused of gang-raping a young woman were shot in the legs during a dramatic encounter with police. The suspects, who allegedly opened fire on officers, are now under arrest. This incident marks the latest move in Bihar’s escalating efforts to curb rising crime.

Gopalganj/ Patna : In a dramatic escalation of its ongoing crackdown on crime, Bihar Police have shot and detained three men accused of gang rape in the Gopalganj district. The men reportedly opened fire on officers during a late-night operation on Monday, prompting police to return fire and injure the suspects.
The incident took place near Sasamusa station in the Kuchaykot police jurisdiction, where officers were pursuing suspects linked to the gang rape of a young woman from Uttar Pradesh. The woman had travelled to Bihar with her ailing father and was allegedly attacked by three men — identified as Abhishek, Kariman, and Sonu Kumar, all residents of Bin Tola village.
According to Gopalganj SDPO Pranjal Kumar, the suspects began shooting when police attempted to apprehend them based on information from an earlier arrest. In the retaliatory fire, all three suspects sustained gunshot wounds to the legs and were taken into custody. They are currently receiving treatment at the Sadar Hospital.
The rape, which reportedly occurred on Monday, has sparked outrage and a swift response from law enforcement under the direction of SP Awadhesh Dixit. One of the accused had already been arrested, leading police to the location of the other two suspects.
This is the second police action in Gopalganj within 24 hours. In a separate incident in the Mirganj area, police confronted a group of men accused of attempting to extort Rs 5 lakh from a local businessman. During the operation, one suspect was shot in the leg, while three others escaped. Police operations are ongoing to locate the remaining suspects.
