Rajgir/Mumbai: Nalanda University and the University of Western Australia (UWA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand academic, research and knowledge cooperation between India and Australia.
The agreement was signed on August 19 on the sidelines of the 10th Annual IC3 Conference & Expo in Mumbai.
The MoU establishes a framework for joint research supervision, teaching programmes, post-doctoral research and academic conferences and symposiums. It also provides for joint publications, exchanges of faculty, research fellows and students, and the sharing of academic publications and resources.
The partnership is also intended to strengthen the intellectual, cultural and historical ties between the two institutions.

Partnership spans research and student exchanges
Nalanda University was represented at the signing by Professor Satyanarayan Shashtri and Dr Muneer Magry. UWA was represented by its vice-chancellor, Professor Amit Chakma, and Dr Ian Martinus, Western Australia’s Investment and Trade Commissioner for India-Gulf, along with senior officials from both institutions.
Welcoming the agreement, Professor Sachin Chaturvedi, vice-chancellor of Nalanda University, said the university was steadily expanding its international academic partnerships.
He said the collaboration with UWA was particularly significant given Australia’s association with the establishment and revival of Nalanda.
The agreement builds on the longstanding links between India and Australia in supporting Nalanda’s international character.
By combining UWA’s contemporary academic strengths with Nalanda University’s intellectual tradition, the partnership aims to create opportunities for scholars, faculty members, researchers and students to collaborate across disciplines and geographical boundaries.
