Patna: A high-level review meeting was held on Tuesday by the Urban Development and Housing Department, to assess preparedness for potential waterlogging in Patna and surrounding areas ahead of the monsoon. The meeting, chaired by Urban Development Minister Jibesh Kumar, was also attended by Road Construction Minister Nitin Nabin and senior civic officials.
The ministers directed municipal bodies and officials to ensure comprehensive and timely preparations so that residents do not face disruptions during the rainy season. The review covered nine major drains in the city, with specific instructions to identify and address chronic waterlogging zones or ‘black spots’.
Minister Jibesh Kumar emphasised the need for proactive action in vulnerable areas and called for raw drains to be constructed where necessary. He also directed that all drain-cleaning work be completed by May 15. BUIDCO (Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation) officials were instructed to ensure smooth drainage and to remain vigilant in their respective zones.
Municipal Commissioner and BUIDCO MD Animesh Kumar Parashar presented a detailed presentation on the department’s flood-prevention measures, which include the deployment of 577 fogging and anti-larvae spray teams across the city and Quick Response Teams (QRTs) stationed in all 75 wards. A dedicated control room has been established to monitor waterlogging-prone areas, and a chatbot and toll-free number have been launched to help citizens report flooding issues.
Those present at the meeting included Kumhrar MLA Arun Sinha, Patna Mayor Sita Sahu, Deputy Mayor Reshmi Chandravanshi, Urban Development Secretary Abhay Kumar Singh, and senior officials from Patna Municipal Corporation and BUIDCO.
