Darbhanga/Patna: An assistant engineer posted at Darbhanga Air Force Station has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a bribery case. The accused, identified as Kaushalesh Kumar, was caught red-handed on Saturday while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.
The CBI’s Patna unit carried out the operation after receiving a complaint that the army engineer had demanded money in exchange for approving the measurement and releasing payment for a road construction project within the Air Force Station. Following an initial inquiry, officials said the complaint was found to be credible.
In a planned trap, members of the CBI Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) entered the Air Force Station disguised as labourers. Sources said that as the operation unfolded, tensions flared between Air Force personnel and CBI officers.
According to officials familiar with the matter, one team of CBI officers was stationed outside while another, already inside in disguise, executed the arrest. However, when the second team attempted to enter the premises after the engineer was apprehended, they were stopped by the security in-charge at the gate, resulting in a verbal altercation.
A complaint has reportedly been filed regarding the alleged misbehaviour with CBI personnel during the operation. Authorities said efforts are underway to formally register a case related to the incident at the CBI level.
The agency has not yet issued an official statement, but a senior official confirmed that further investigation is ongoing.
