Patna: The journey from Bhagalpur to Delhi via Buxar is expected to become significantly smoother with the Centre agreeing to upgrade the proposed highway to six lanes. The project, which was originally planned as a four-lane road, received a green light during a meeting between Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and Bihar’s Road Construction Minister Nitin Nabin in New Delhi on Wednesday.

According to Nitin Nabin, a detailed project report (DPR) for the upgraded Buxar–Bhagalpur route will be prepared shortly. The highway is part of a broader infrastructure push, with Bihar likely to receive over Rs 20,000 crore worth of road development schemes under the annual action plan for 2025–26, which is expected to be approved soon.

“The Union Minister assured swift action on all pending national highway projects in Bihar,” Naveen said after the meeting, calling the discussions “positive.”

The ministers also reviewed the status of other key projects, including the six-lane elevated road from Didarganj to Saristabad, and sought clearances for several initiatives under the PM Package of 2015. These include the construction and widening of NH 322, NH 333A, and NH 1335 (Bhagalpur to Baljhor), as well as the eastern arm of the Patna Ring Road.

Nitin Nabin added that tenders for these highway upgrades would be floated soon, following directions issued to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Prior to meeting Gadkari, the Bihar minister also met with the Secretary of the Road Ministry to push for expedited approvals.

Senior officials including Additional Chief Secretary Mihir Kumar Singh and NHAI’s Chief General Manager LP Padhi were present at the discussions, which highlighted the urgency of accelerating road infrastructure in the state.
