Patna: Senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Shahnawaz Hussain has strongly criticised Turkey and Azerbaijan for their open support to Pakistan during the recent military standoff with India. In a post on social media platform X, Hussain said, “The country which is a friend of Pakistan is a traitor to India. Turkey and Azerbaijan have hurt the hearts of 40 crore Indians. Supporters of terror will get an answer.”
The remarks come amid growing public outrage in India after both countries expressed solidarity with Pakistan following ‘Operation Sindoor’—an Indian military response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which left 26 civilians dead. The operation has further strained diplomatic relations in the region.
In the aftermath of these developments, calls for a nationwide boycott of Turkey and Azerbaijan have gained traction. Indian travel companies have reportedly begun pulling down tour packages to the two countries. Some business groups have also voiced their disapproval of economic engagement with either nation.
Hussain’s statement has added fuel to the fire, reflecting a broader sentiment of anger across political and public spheres. “The government is taking and will take strict steps,” he said, suggesting that New Delhi may pursue tougher diplomatic measures in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs has not yet issued an official statement regarding the boycott calls or any potential sanctions. However, insiders say that reassessments of bilateral ties are underway.
