Patna: Bihar has received national recognition in the digital healthcare sector, with Begusarai district being named the “Best Performing Model District” under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).
The award was conferred in the category of districts with populations above five lakh, recognising efforts to implement and expand digital health services at the district level.
The honour was presented at Aarogya Manthan 2026, organised by the National Health Authority (NHA) at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, marking eight years of Ayushman Bharat–Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) and five years of ABDM.
Union Health Minister Presents Award
Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P. Nadda presented the award to Arvind Kumar Verma, IAS, Special Secretary in the Bihar Health Department and Chief Executive Officer of the Bihar Swasthya Suraksha Samiti (BSSS).
The recognition highlights the district’s efforts to strengthen digital healthcare infrastructure and extend digital health services to citizens.
Bihar Expands Digital Health Ecosystem
The Bihar Swasthya Suraksha Samiti, under the Health Department of the Bihar government, has been working to implement and expand various components of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission across the state.
The initiative focuses on strengthening digital health services, connecting healthcare institutions and health workers with the digital health ecosystem, and making digital healthcare more accessible and effective for citizens.
The state is working towards improving the integration of healthcare facilities and professionals with digital systems to support the delivery of health services.
Coordinated Efforts Behind Begusarai’s Achievement
According to the Health Department, the national recognition is the result of coordinated efforts by the Begusarai district administration, district ABDM team, healthcare institutions, health workers and other stakeholders.
The award reflects the district’s implementation of ABDM and efforts to take digital healthcare services to the grassroots level.
It also highlights the role of coordination between district authorities and healthcare institutions in expanding the use of digital health systems.
