Patna: Patna’s first underground subway, linking the Multi Modal Hub to Patna Junction, will remain closed between 11pm and 6am daily for maintenance. In a push to ensure cleanliness and order, Patna Smart City authorities have announced a Rs 1000 fine for anyone found littering inside the subway or at the Multi Modal Hub.

Security has also been stepped up, with bouncers stationed in the subway to ensure passenger safety. Since opening, the facility has seen a surge in footfall, with many visitors using the subway to reach Mahavir Temple and Patna Junction, while others have come simply to witness the state’s first underground corridor.

Currently, announcements in Hindi and English guide passengers on using the travelators and escalators. Officials plan to introduce local languages and dialects in the coming days to make the system more inclusive and accessible.

Traffic Overhaul Near Station Area

To decongest the Patna Junction area, a new traffic management system is being introduced. All commercial vehicles—including autos, e-rickshaws, and buses—will operate from the Multi Modal Hub. In preparation, over 50 police officers and constables have been deployed around Patna Junction Golambar, GPO Golambar, and adjacent areas. Once the system is fully implemented, 14 officers and 32 constables will be stationed in the zone.

Multi Modal Hub Entry and Exit Plan

The Multi Modal Hub features eight gates, each designated for specific types of vehicles and purposes:

  • Gate 1: Entry for small four-wheelers and three-wheelers via the first-floor ramp
  • Gate 6: Exit for vehicles descending from the first floor
  • Gates 2 & 8: Reserved exclusively for bus entry
  • Gate 5: Exit gate for buses
  • Gates 3, 4 & 7: Pedestrian-only access, with Gate 7 also functioning as an emergency exit

A reserved lane for buses runs between Gates 1 and 6. Three-wheelers and taxis will be restricted to specific zones and won’t be permitted towards Patna Junction. Instead, they will be directed towards destinations such as R Block, Atal Path, Airport, Phulwari, and Danapur.
