Buxar/ Patna: Bihar is set to establish its inaugural sanctuary dedicated to the conservation of blackbuck, with the ambitious project currently underway in the Baralev (Pilapur) Mauja of Nawanagar block in Buxar district. This landmark initiative aims to create a secure habitat for the rare black buck, alongside nilgais and other stray animals, within a designated forest area spanning approximately four hundred acres.
The project received a significant boost with the state cabinet’s approval of the proposal, prompting the Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Department to commence work. As part of the plan, 12 acres of government land in Baralev Mauja, falling under Bhatauli Panchayat, were earmarked and allotted to the department for the sanctuary’s construction.
However, the development has encountered a delay due to complications in land transfer. It has come to light that a portion of the allocated land was previously distributed to landless individuals by the circle office. Consequently, the complete transfer of the land to the Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Department has not yet been finalized, posing a hurdle to the project’s progress.
Despite these challenges, once completed, the blackbuck sanctuary is anticipated to significantly enhance eco- tourism in the district, drawing visitors keen to witness these majestic animals in a protected environment.
